Murder at Mystery Manor
Video game Soundtrack composition
Murder at Mystery Manor is an asymmetric multiplayer murder mystery video game set in a lavish mansion where players have to solve the murder of a party guest committed by one of the group. Chiptunes artist Jared Blondeau originally wrote the main theme in the style of classic Nintendo and Genesis games of the 80s and 90s, but it did not fit the stylized aesthetic of the game. Inspired by classic whodunit murder mystery movies such as Murder on the Orient Express and Clue, I transposed his theme into Ableton Live 9 and changed the instrument palette to real orchestral tones and a spooky synthesizer to be reminiscent of the aforementioned movies while keeping the lighthearted nature of the composition intact.
The Sky Below
sound design and engineering
When Minicore Studios was developing its first installment of this video game series, The Sun at Night, sound effect design was outsourced to a local sound design firm. The firm was plagued with delays, cost over runs, and the final deliverables did not meet our expectations. As I have 15 years of song writing and audio design experience, I proposed that I create the sound effects for our next game in addition to my project management responsibilities. I was excited about this opportunity to save the studio money and also challenge my audio skills to tell a story in a player-driven world. With limited resources and budget I designed environmental and object sound effects for the three stages in The Sky Below to be highly cinematic without compromising quality.
Fossors - Mai
music composition and engineering
I have composed and recorded my own music since discovering Massive Attack’s Mezzanine and Akira Yamoaka’s Silent Hill video game soundtracks in sophomore year in high school; The blend of traditional instrumentation, electronic music, atmospherics, and computers has always fascinated me. After 20 years of personal expression and experimentation, I set out to record a full release with my band Fossors. We released our first EP digitally in 2014 after four years of recording. We recorded the 7” vinyl followup Mai/Trini in 2017 showcasing 20 years of audio engineering experience.
